Vanam

Our Project “Vanam” derived from Sanskrit which means “Jungle/Forest” in  English language, aims at planting as many trees as possible on a mass scale in villages to improve greenery and make earth cooler.

Introduction:

We care for our family, our parents, our children, our friends, infact almost every living being around us, but neglect trees and plants around us which prove to be one of our basic means of livelihood. We are developing in all possible fields by the day, alongside damaging our environment. Since the beginning, trees have furnished us with food and many cultural necessities such as shelter, medicine, clothing, tools, heat in the winter and cool shade in the summer.
Trees help supply oxygen and refresh the air we breathe by utilizing carbon dioxide produced when we exhale and burn fossil fuels. Trees also reduce noise pollution, act as wind buffers and absorb dust and other air pollutants. Trees are the essential link in the food chain of life; they capture sunlight and convert it into energy.
Apart from the above, trees are lungs of the good environment. They take much of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Therefore, greenhouse gas load is reduced and effects of global warming are also brought down. Further dead trees got buried in soil provide fossil fuels like coal, gasoline products, etc. Among all, trees are having an indisputable role in bringing rain to earth. Moreover, they provide a cover over the top surface of earth preventing heating up by solar rays. Trees, shrubs, and turf will improve air quality. Leaves filter the air we breathe by removing dust and other particulates. Rain then washes the pollutants to the ground. Leaves absorb carbon dioxide from the air to form carbohydrates that are used in the plant’s structure and function. Leaves also absorb other air pollutants—such as ozone, carbon monoxide, and sulphur dioxide—and give off oxygen. Since we have so many advantages from trees and we neglect keeping our surroundings green, we have taken this issue into consideration.
The concept of this project is to motivate people in which ever way we can to plant trees and go green in an economic and most effective way.

Our proposed solution:

Going green is considered a challenge in India, as it takes special interest, labour and each individuals initiation. We have come up with a solution where going green can be possible along with women empowerment. Women Empowerment is one more area where we want to emphasize on, as women are portrayed to be weak in many fields. Throughout history and in many societies including India, gender inequality was part and parcel of an accepted male-dominated culture. The traditional mentalities of India assume that the place of women is mainly concentrated to the household activities like kitchen work and upbringing of the children. Even after sixty years of Indian independence, women are still one of the most powerless and marginalized sections of Indian society. Our solution is one of the initial steps to enrich women moral and build up their self confidence. You can sponsor a woman for planting a limited number of trees and taking care of the same in her surroundings and allotted areas. This can be an easy way for woman engaged in this activity to earn as much as she can to fulfil her basic needs.
